Love in the big city…. or the LACK of
Running to catch the streetcar the other day, it dawned on me. Here among the hustle and bustle of life, some where, lives love. Hence, I look at my scheduler to see that what seems just like December (Christmas, gifts, HUGE credit card bills) is now in fact February, the month of love.

Love letters: Valentine's Day rants
Kissing Frogs
Nerd is the new cool
I first walked hesitantly into a room filled with hopeful young journalists of Canada, participating in an organized ‘speed-dating’ workshop to break the ice. I questioned my position in all of this since I was the one and only delegate to represent George Brown College’s newspaper. Oh yes, you might’ve heard of it—it is called “Dialog”. While other schools had about fifteen delegates, there wasn’t much ice for them to break.
Good CDs you haven’t heard
Tired of hearing people rant about the latest CDs from K-Os, Gnarls Barkley or Prince? While all those artists have put out critically claimed by the press, you can still find great music without the media’s seal of approval. Below are six CDs which should be getting regular rotation on radio stations but aren’t because the music industry only wants albums that conform to what’s currently “hot” (sex, money, drugs, violence, etc.). The following dare to be different, but not enough to make the listener question whether if what they’re listening to is music at all.
Lecture behaviour
It seems that every guidance office has little tricks of the trade to overcome the many obstacles that students face. Ranging anywhere from how to study to how to find a job, but despite of all this advice, they’ve forgotten the most essential college experience, the lecture. When I came to this college a year ago, I knew little about how to survive these three to four hour lessons and the hidden rules that apply to them. By following these simple rules, you’ll avoid those same mistakes and making enemies with your classmates.
Your regular friend, fibre
Fibre. We’ve all heard that we don’t get enough and we need more of it in our diets. On average, North Americans consume less than 50% of the dietary fibre levels required for good health. In particular, the “food” choices of our age group, i.e. nachos, fries, pizza and beer, unfortunately don’t even come close to supplying our bodies with the fibre we need.

January can be an abysmal time for students, cold weather: the return to school for the beginning of a dark semester and long days with short hours of sunshine.
Black women writing history
I have been looking for my name. On bookmarks, cups, door nameplates. It started decades ago and though I eventually gave up my search— resigned to the fact that Dionne will never be Sarah, Jennifer or Laura— I still catch myself spinning the bookmark wheel whenever I’m in a Hallmark store. This is how I used to feel about finding myself in books. Well, not myself really, but someone who looked like me, sounded like me, or at least made me want to be a better me. My love for books started early. I would read anything I could get my hands on. Nancy Drew, Little Women, series of Judy Blume novels, and bible stories filled whatever time I had to spare.
